In creating your own oil, refering to oil used for therapy, you get a unique oil blend catered to your specific condition and scent preference – excellent! and easy.
2 months ago, I imitated a massage oil a friend was using. I liked the scent and it was effective in allivating pain. The oil came out really close and was equally effective; I used it for abhyanga (self massage) and on 2 clients with arthritis.
The original oil contained Essential Oil of: Camphor, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Clove, Black Pepper, Clary Sage and Benzoin in Olive Oil.
I decided to do an extraction first with fresh herbs since I did not have all the essential oils using: Rosemary, Clove, Black Pepper and Sage in Olive Oil.
I placed the fresh, but dry herbs in a jar (Important! to minimize risk of mold) and poured Olive Oil over and tightened lid. I shook the jar every day for the next 3 weeks, whereafter I strained the Oil; discarding the marc (the left over herbs).
In a separate smaller dark colored jar, I combined following Essential Oils:
26 drops Peppermint
13 drops Eucalyptus
26 drops Rosemary
13 drops Clove
26 drops Black Pepper
Shook the bottle to blend well, and added 4 oz. of the extracted Olive Oil and shook again.
A preservative like Benzoin or Vitamin E could be added.
This oil blend is particularly effective in soothing joint and muscle pain on specific areas. I would not necessarily use it on the entire body, instead use a less complex blend like a combination of Olive -and Almond Oil.
